Who Is BrowCraft For?

Eyebrow transplantation is suitable for a wide range of patients. The key candidacy criteria relate to donor hair availability and the cause of brow loss rather than any rigid demographic profile.

Ideal Candidates Include

  • Over-plucking damage — Years of over-plucking can permanently damage follicles, causing patchy or absent regrowth. BrowCraft restores this fully.
  • Age-related thinning — Natural brow thinning is common from the 40s onwards, particularly at the tail. BrowCraft reconstructs fullness and arch definition.
  • Alopecia areata — Localised patches or total brow loss from alopecia areata can be effectively addressed, particularly in stable (non-active) cases.
  • Scar tissue coverage — Trauma, burns, surgical scars or radiation can leave hairless patches within the brow. FUE follicles can be implanted through scar tissue.
  • Post-medical treatment — Chemotherapy, radiation or medications can cause temporary or permanent brow loss. BrowCraft restores after treatment completion.
  • Tattoo or microblading correction — Previously tattooed brows that have shifted colour, faded unevenly or need reshaped can be corrected or enhanced.
  • Congenitally sparse brows — Patients who have never had full brows can achieve the density and shape they want for the first time.
  • Men seeking fuller brows — Male patients seeking denser, more defined brows are ideal candidates for BrowCraft's customised masculine brow design protocol.

Key Candidacy Factors

Adequate Donor Hair

A small donor area at the back of the scalp (typically behind the ear) must yield enough fine, single-hair follicular units. Our surgeons assess this at consultation.

Stable Medical Condition

Active alopecia areata, thyroid conditions or other systemic causes of hair loss should be medically managed and stable before proceeding.

Realistic Expectations

Understanding that transplanted hair grows at scalp rate (requiring monthly trimming from month 3) and that final results mature over 10–14 months is important.

Age

BrowCraft is most appropriate for patients 22 years and older. There is no upper age limit — patients in their 70s and 80s achieve excellent results.

Active Skin Conditions

Active eczema, psoriasis or dermatitis in the brow area may need to be treated and resolved before transplant surgery can be safely performed.

The BrowCraft Micro-FUE Technique

Eyebrow restoration requires a fundamentally different approach from scalp hair transplant. The demands on precision, placement angle and single-hair isolation are dramatically higher — and the aesthetic consequences of any error are immediately visible on the most expressive feature of the face.

01

Brow Architecture Design

Before a single follicle is touched, your surgeon uses our digital facial-mapping protocol to design your ideal brow shape. Working from principles of facial symmetry and golden-ratio proportioning — and critically, from what you want — a precise blueprint is created. Every hair placement is pre-planned on this map.

02

Donor Site Assessment

Donor hair is harvested exclusively from the occipital scalp — typically from a small zone behind and above the ear where the finest, most brow-like follicles are found. Only single-hair follicular units are selected; multi-hair grafts are not used in eyebrow restoration as they create an unnatural density.

HARRTS FUEsion X™ Extraction

The HARRTS FUEsion X™ robotic system assists graft extraction with Computer Vision-guided identification of each follicle and Augmented Reality overlay to guide the surgeon's extraction path — reducing transection rate to under 2% while preserving the donor area's natural appearance.

04

Recipient Site Creation

This is the most technically demanding phase. Micro-slits are created in the recipient brow area at angles between 10–25° — dramatically more acute than scalp hair — with a lateral tilt that matches the direction of natural brow hair growth. The angle and direction vary millimetre by millimetre across the brow.

05

Artisan Follicle Implantation

Each follicle is placed by hand using jeweler-grade implanter pens — never forceps, which risk crushing the graft. The surgeon places each hair individually, checking direction, depth and angle against the pre-designed blueprint at every stage. A typical eyebrow procedure involves 300–800 individual placements.

06

Final Symmetry Check

Before the procedure concludes, your surgeon performs a full symmetry assessment — comparing both brows against the original blueprint, checking for any gaps in density, confirming the arch peak, tail definition and head-of-brow fill. The operating team photographs the result for your post-operative record.

Important Note — Transplanted Hair Growth Rate

Transplanted follicles retain the genetic programming of their origin — which is the scalp. This means they will grow at scalp rate (approximately 1cm per month), which is faster than native brow hair. From around the 3rd month post-procedure, monthly trimming will be required to maintain your brow shape. This is a routine, simple process — most patients incorporate it into their regular grooming. Your surgeon will demonstrate the correct technique at your post-procedure follow-up.

Your Procedure Day

Understanding exactly what happens on procedure day removes uncertainty and helps you prepare. Here is the full sequence of events from arrival to discharge.

7:30 am

Arrival & Welcome

You arrive at your chosen clinic location. Our patient coordinator greets you, reviews your pre-procedure paperwork, and confirms consent documentation. You are offered refreshments and given a clinic orientation.

8:00 am

Surgeon Consultation & Final Design

Your surgeon reviews your pre-designed brow blueprint with you one final time. Adjustments can be made at this stage. Brow shape, arch height, tail position and density are confirmed. Digital photographs are taken for your clinical record.

8:30 am

Local Anaesthesia Administration

Local anaesthetic is administered to both the donor area (behind the ear) and the brow recipient areas. A topical numbing agent is applied first, followed by fine-needle injections. The procedure begins only when full numbness is confirmed. Patients experience pressure but no pain during the procedure.

9:00 am

Graft Extraction

Using the HARRTS FUEsion X™ robotic system and sub-0.8mm micro-punch tools, your surgeon harvests the required number of single-hair follicular units from the donor area. Grafts are immediately placed in a chilled, oxygenated solution to preserve viability. Typical extraction: 300–800 grafts over 60–90 minutes.

10:30 am

Graft Preparation

While you rest, our clinical team prepares each extracted graft under magnification — trimming excess tissue, confirming graft quality, and sorting units by follicle calibre. This meticulous preparation directly contributes to graft survival rates above 95%.

11:00 am

Recipient Site Creation

Your surgeon hand-creates each micro-slit in the brow recipient area — placing them at precise angles (10–25°), depths and directions per the pre-designed blueprint. This phase sets the final direction and pattern of your brow hair growth. It is the most technically demanding step of the procedure.

12:00 pm

Follicle Implantation

Each prepared graft is individually placed using jeweler-grade implanter pens. Your surgeon works methodically across the brow — filling density zones, establishing the arch definition, and creating the natural taper at the tail. You may listen to music, a podcast or watch a film during this phase. Typical duration: 90–120 minutes.

Final Review & Symmetry Check

Your surgeon performs a full bilateral symmetry review. Post-procedure photographs are taken. The donor area is dressed with a small adhesive dressing. You are given a post-operative care kit containing saline spray, aftercare instructions, and your follow-up appointment details.

2:00 pm

Discharge

You are discharged with written aftercare instructions, emergency contact details, and a pre-arranged follow-up appointment at Day 7. Most patients feel comfortable to travel home unassisted, though we recommend having a driver available. You can return to work within 3–5 days.

Recovery Timeline

The recovery from eyebrow transplantation is straightforward for the vast majority of patients. Understanding each phase eliminates worry and sets clear expectations.

Days 1–3

Immediate Post-Procedure

  • Small, visible grafts ("stubbly" hairs) seated in brow area
  • Mild redness and swelling around brow area — normal and expected
  • Minor scabbing around each graft — do not pick or scratch
  • Donor area behind ear: tiny healing wounds, covered by hair
  • No makeup, creams or lotions on brow area
  • Sleep slightly elevated to reduce swelling
  • Apply prescribed saline spray gently as directed
Most patients can return to desk work within 3–5 days.
Days 4–14

Scab Resolution

  • Scabs naturally soften and fall away — allow this to happen naturally
  • Redness subsides significantly by Day 7–10
  • Brow area looks clean and natural after scabs clear
  • Follow-up appointment at Day 7 — surgeon checks healing
  • Light exercise (walking) resumed from Day 5; strenuous gym from Day 14
  • Gentle brow makeup may be used from Day 10 onwards
Weeks 3–8

Shedding Phase

  • Expected shedding begins — transplanted hairs fall out
  • This is completely normal — the follicle root remains in place
  • Brows may appear sparse or uneven during this phase
  • Brow makeup can be used freely to fill in during shedding
  • All normal activities resumed
Shedding is expected and necessary — it does not mean the transplant has failed.
Months 3–6

New Growth Begins

  • New hair growth emerges from transplanted follicles
  • Hair grows at scalp rate (~1cm/month) — begin monthly trimming
  • Texture may initially be coarser than native brow hair
  • Density is approximately 40–60% of final result at Month 6
  • Follow-up appointment at Month 3 and Month 6
  • Professional brow tinting can begin from Month 4
Months 7–12

Maturation & Softening

  • Hair continues to fill in and density increases to 80–90%
  • Texture softens to more closely match native brow hair
  • Brow shape fully apparent and symmetrical
  • Monthly trimming routine well-established
  • All brow treatments (waxing, threading, tinting) fully permitted
Months 12–14

Full Final Result

  • 100% of transplanted density visible and mature
  • Brows look and feel entirely natural
  • Results are permanent — follicles programmed to survive for life
  • Final follow-up appointment with surgeon at Month 12
  • Covered by BrowCraft Assurance programme
Your final result is permanent. Transplanted follicles will continue to grow for life.

Monthly Trimming Note: From Month 3 onward, your transplanted brow hair will require monthly trimming to maintain the designed shape. This is because transplanted scalp-origin follicles grow at scalp rate (~1cm/month), faster than native brow hair. Trimming takes 2–3 minutes and can be done at home with small brow scissors or at any beauty salon. Your surgeon will demonstrate at your Month 3 follow-up.

Aftercare Instructions

Following these aftercare guidelines carefully in the first 14 days significantly improves graft survival and final result quality.

DO
  • Apply prescribed saline spray gently every 3–4 hours for 5 days
  • Sleep with head slightly elevated (2 pillows) for first 3 nights
  • Take prescribed antibiotics and anti-inflammatory medications as directed
  • Let scabs fall away naturally without assistance
  • Keep the brow area clean and dry after Day 5
  • Wear a loose hat when outdoors in strong sun from Day 3 onwards
  • Attend your Day 7 follow-up appointment
  • Begin gentle brow moisturisation with unscented cream from Day 14
  • Resume all normal activities from Day 5 (desk work, driving)
DO NOT
  • Do not pick, scratch, rub or touch the brow area with unwashed hands
  • Do not get the brow area wet (shower, rain, sweat) for 5 days
  • Do not apply any makeup, brow products or skincare to brows for 10 days
  • Do not expose the brow area to direct sun, steam rooms or saunas for 14 days
  • Do not take blood-thinning medications (aspirin, ibuprofen) for 14 days
  • Do not perform strenuous exercise for 14 days
  • Do not consume alcohol for 5 days post-procedure
  • Do not swim (chlorinated or open water) for 21 days
  • Do not panic if shedding begins at Week 3 — this is expected

Detailed written aftercare instructions are provided at discharge. Our patient care team is reachable by phone and email 7 days a week during your recovery period.

Procedure FAQs

Is an eyebrow transplant painful? +
No. The procedure is performed under local anaesthesia and is entirely painless once the anaesthetic takes effect. Most patients feel pressure and mild vibration but no pain. The anaesthetic injection itself can cause brief discomfort — a topical numbing cream is applied first to minimise this. Mild soreness in the brow area for 24–48 hours post-procedure is normal and managed with prescribed medication.
Will I have to shave my eyebrows for the procedure? +
Typically, no. In most cases we work around existing brow hair, which serves as a guide for placement. If your brows are very sparse or you need full reconstruction, we may ask you to come with brows unstyled so the surgeon can see the natural baseline. The small donor extraction site behind the ear is trimmed to approximately 1–2mm, but this is fully concealed by surrounding hair.
How long before I can see the final result? +
Final results are fully visible at 10–14 months. At 6 months, most patients have approximately 60% of their final density. At 9 months, approximately 85%. The timeline varies slightly by individual based on their natural growth rate, age and general health. Remember that the shedding phase at Weeks 3–8 is normal and expected — new growth begins at Month 3.
How many grafts will I need? +
Eyebrow restoration typically requires 150–400 grafts per brow (300–800 total). This varies significantly depending on the extent of hair loss, the desired shape and density, and whether you require full reconstruction or enhancement of existing brows. Your surgeon will give you a precise graft estimate during your free consultation.
Will I need to trim my brows after the transplant? +
Yes — from approximately Month 3 onwards. Transplanted follicles retain the growth rate of their origin (the scalp), which is approximately 1cm per month — faster than native brow hair. This means your transplanted brow hair will require regular trimming to maintain shape. Most patients trim once per month using small brow scissors, a task that takes 2–3 minutes. Your surgeon will show you the correct method at your Month 3 follow-up appointment.
Can I combine BrowCraft with other cosmetic treatments? +
Many patients combine BrowCraft with other facial aesthetic procedures. Anti-wrinkle injections (Botox) should be paused for 2 weeks before and after the procedure. Filler treatments to areas away from the brow can continue as normal. Brow tinting can begin from Month 4. Any combination treatments should be discussed with your BrowCraft surgeon during consultation.
What if I'm not happy with my results? +
FUEsion BrowCraft is backed by our formal BrowCraft Assurance programme. If your result does not meet the standards agreed upon with your surgeon at consultation, we will work with you to address it — whether that is a complementary density-enhancement session or another form of remediation. Our surgeons have a 98% patient satisfaction rate. Full details are available on the Assurance page.
